Yunnan
About this Journey

Located in Yunnan, China’s southern province known for beautiful landscapes and diverse ethnic culture, this program challenges students and pushes them to learn skills outside of the classroom. Not only program designed specifically for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, provide a great opportunity for outdoor education and physical wellbeing, students will also get to enjoy amazing, once-in-a-lifetime views in the mystical mountains of  Yunnan.

Program Details
Itinerary

Warm up: Shangri-la

  • Arrive in Shangri-la and meet your WildChina Program Leader, transfer to hotel
  • Acclimation for the rest of the day
  • Arrange activities upon request

Trek Day 1: Abujee Mountain

  • Transfer to Abujee Mountain trailhead (1.5 hours)
  • Hike into the hull of the mountain range to first campsite through Tibetan and Yi herder camps; enjoy the beautiful mountain views (weather providing); set up campsite; time providing we will learn about the history and culture of Tibetan muleteers, learn how to properly back a mule, and learn to tie some simple knots
  • Overnight at first campsite in mountain meadow

Trek Day 2: Camp at Tsonak

  • Begin slow ascent into Abujee, taking breaks for rest and lunch as necessary; optional: hike up surrounding granite hill tops for views of the valley below
  • Overnight at small camp beneath the sacred lake Tsonak (or “Black Lake”)

Trek Day 3: Trek Along the Kora Path

  • Continue trek with emphasis on the lake area; hike to the lake along the kora path
  • Begin decent to the valley below
  • Overnight at third and final campsite

Trek Day 4: Transfer to Zhongdian

  • Descend to pick-up point; transfer to Zhongdian (1 hour)
  • Free time to relax and freshen up

Travel Day: Return Home

  • Take flight back home

Day 7: Departure

  • Take flight /Train come back to Home
