About this Journey

Extraordinary mountain scenery, limitless hiking opportunities, and fascinating minority cultures who have maintained a traditional way of life for centuries define the tiny province of Guizhou. An undiscovered gem of China’s southwest, Guizhou is home to Miao, Dong, and Yao ethnic minorities as well as Han Chinese. Visit the capital city of Kaili, a launching pad to explore some of the province’s most spectacular hiking and scenic areas. This program offers students an immersive historical and cultural experience in addition to service-learning. Students will be trekking into the rural countryside and residing in Wuyao village. Not only will they be engaging in community service activities, but students will also learn basic photography skills through workshops and projects. This educational experience allows students to appreciate the natural beauty of Guizhou and be fully immersed in the wild.
