About this Journey

Located in Shanxi Province, the ancient city of Pingyao is a UNESCO world heritage site. Founded in the 14th century, the city has a rich history and is full of hidden treasures. Students will head to the Pingyao Ancient county hall to learn about the governing institutions in the past. Students will play a roleplaying game to test students ability to problem solve. Last but not least, students will visit a Confucian temple to learn traditional Chinese paper cutting.

Itinerary

  • 09:00 Assemble and introduction to your WildChina program leader, walk to Pingyao Ancient County Hall. To learn what institutions the county government had at that time, what responsibilities they had, how to judge and mediate common people’s domestic trifles in the “lobby”. Even the magistrate’s daily life, diet and so on.
  • 10:00 Design different cases and role-play in groups to test students’ ability to solve problems and judge right and wrong.
  • 12:00 Lunch and rest
  • 13:30 Visit Confucian Temple and learn how to do traditional paper cutting
  • 16:30 Inspiration and Sharing
  • 17:00 Local dinner and departure
