About this Journey

Yunnan is a province on China’s southern border with beautiful landscapes and diverse ethnic culture. Students will be experiencing the Tibetan cultures and beautiful mountainous landscapes through hikes  and walks through beautiful villages and monasteries.

Program Details
Itinerary

Day 1: Shangri-la

  • Take flight/Train from home to Zhongdian via Kunming
  • Your WildChina Shangri-la guide will meet you at the arrival hall of the airport and will be your host while you are in Shangri-la
  • Your WildChina guide, driver, and vehicle will take you to your guesthouse to check-in and relax

Day 2: Songzanlin Monastery

  • Early morning visit to Songzanlin Monastery
  • Transfer to Tangdui village to explore and learn about Nixi Minority black pottery making
  • Dinner with Tibetan family in nearby Village; dinner followed by Tibetan singing and dancing

Day 3: Abujee

  • Transfer to Abujee Mountain trailhead
  • Hike into the hull of the mountain range through Tibetan and Yi herder camps; enjoy the beautiful mountain views
    • Learn about the history and culture of Tibetan muleteers
    • Learn how to properly back a mule and how to tie simple knots
  • Overnight at first campsite in the mountain meadow

Day 4: Tsonak

  • Begin an ascent into Abujee, taking breaks for rests and lunch as necessary
  • Hike to the lake Tsonak (or “Black Lake”) along the kora path
  • Descend into the valley below
  • Overnight at the second campsite

Day 5: Transfer to Shangri-La

  • Descend into the valley to our pick-up point
  • Transfer to Shangri-La
  • Free time to relax and freshen up

Day 6: Community Service at a Local Village

  • Transfer to Gonjo village to explore and learn about the traditional Tangka Painting
  • Community Service work at a local village near Gyalthang Town

Day 7: Departure

  • Take flight /Train come back to Home
